29 Apr When Will the Morning Come?
As anyone who is a parent knows, one of the great joys of being a mom or a dad is that you get to share so, so many things…
…Like a nice stomach bug (apologies to all those I’ve had to cancel on or haven’t replied to over the last week or so).
Pretty much, your reward for taking care of them—is getting it yourself!
Talk about standing in solidarity with the least of these…
Anyway, one night, as one of my children lay sick on the bathroom floor, he called out in misery and through tears:
WHAT TIME IS IT?
2 am, buddy.
His response:
2 AM?
AGHHH!! WHEN WILL THE MORNING COME?!?
And in this more or less overly dramatically posed question, I heard the very real cry of the human heart:
When will the morning come?
When will suffering end?
When will everything be ok?
It’s a great question. It’s the right question. It’s the question that opens us up to the Bible’s amazing answer:
In contrast to some other faith systems, which say “When you make it okay“; in contrast to the secular response, which says, “Never“,
The Bible says, “One Day“. There is a “One Day” coming, whose transforming power and glory will do more than just end suffering; it will undo suffering.
If you’ve been here, you know we’ve been seeing that truth and many others as we have moved through the book of Job. Now, this Sunday morning, we are taking a final look at the book, and seeing God’s incredible answer to Job, which has both inspired and mystified readers and seekers of all kinds over the years.
Then, Sunday night, we have a special Encounter Service, where we will be taking extended time just to worship and pray for a number of things—for healing, for God’s presence in our midst, for the Holy Spirit’s power in our lives and church—but primarily, we will just be worshipping and creating an environment where God can speak and touch us.
I’m looking forward to a great weekend together, and to seeing all that God does in our midst.
With love,
Morgan
