27 Jul Discussion Guide: Try This At Home
Before We Get Started
For our discussion today, we will be using the sermon series discussion guides. If you would like to follow along you can access this discussion guide on the website at mosaicchurchaustin.com and then select “community group resources” in the menu options.
Prayer
Because the primary goal of our time together is to establish relationships and learn how to walk with one another in all that God has called us to be and do, we’d like to begin by praying for one another. So, does anyone have anything you’d like us to pray for or anything to share regarding how you’ve seen God moving in your life that we can celebrate together?

What kind of rides do you like best at theme parks?
Our Marriages
Colossians 3:17-19
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
Galatians 3:28-29
There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
What does our culture teach us is the purpose of marriage? How does that compare with the purpose Paul aims husbands and wives at in his teachings?
How do Paul’s commands to love and submit to your spouse require greater faith in God?
How do respect, value, and honor play a part in the commands to love and submit to one another?
Our Families
Colossians 3:20-21
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged..
What does a healthy and happy family look like, in your opinion?
If young children obey their parents and those parents seek to not pick on or embitter their children, what will the relational foundation be as those children grow up? How does that make space for the gospel to grow?
How do Paul’s commands to parents and children also aim our hearts at understanding how to relate to God as our heavenly Father?
Our Work
Colossians 3:22-25, 4:1
Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.
Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.
What does this passage say about how we treat people deemed lower in the authority chain of our cultural hierarchy?
What does this passage say about how we treat people deemed higher in the authority chain of our cultural hierarchy?
How does remembering we all have a master in heaven, who shows no favoritism and rewards those who work for him with all their heart no matter how other people may behave, teach us to treat other people?
Closing Time
Spend the final moments of your time together praying for any needs the group may have, asking God to empower us to faithfully honor him in our relationships in our families, with our friends, and at work.
