16 Sep Take a Look at God!
As they say, “Look at God!”
If you haven’t heard, Mosaic Church announced this past Sunday that it will be opening an additional location in South Austin this fall. We have recently and miraculously been given debt-free property and land in South Austin, courtesy of Texas Oaks Baptist Church (TOBC).
After being contacted by the leadership of TOBC this past May, and after being asked by them to consider launching a South Austin campus, the Mosaic elder team weighed and prayed through what was being asked and offered.
We said yes, and after several months of conversations and Q and A sessions with the roughly 50 members of TOBC, they voted, per their church bylaws, to dissolve and join the Mosaic Church family!
We are obviously very excited for this, and can’t wait to get to work to establish a thriving community in South Austin.
Let me list a series of seven questions and seven answers about this which I encourage you to read through carefully, including two asks at the end.
- Did you just say that Mosaic will be opening a south location? Yes!
Where will it be? Off of Slaughter Lane, between Interstate 35 and Mopac. It’s about a 30-minute drive from the Mosaic North campus.
- How did that happen? The leadership of Texas Oaks Baptist Church, also known as TOBC, desired to transition out of ministry, and have led a congregation of about 50 people in South Austin through a discovery process to connect with Mosaic after researching, vetting and contacting us.
The Mosaic elder team has been working with TOBC closely since May to bring both churches into an understanding of what this will mean moving forward. Last Sunday, the TOBC congregation voted, per its bylaws, to officially dissolve and become part of the Mosaic family.
- When will this begin? Most likely November 6.
In the meantime, we are working to take the TOBC members, including their former elders, through our membership process beginning this Sunday at 4 pm at that location to help familiarize them even more with what they are walking into.
- How big is their facility? The main worship center seats about 250-300, and there is a fellowship hall, children’s classrooms and playground, and some offices.
- Who will lead it? We are putting together a team right now primarily for the purposes of helping Sunday gatherings get off the ground and go well.
In the near future, there will likely be a combination of in-person preaching there plus having the message from the north location on the screen at the south location, and sometimes even vice versa. Regardless, it will take some time to build.
The next two months are a real process of discovery for all of us. In the meantime, TOBC members will be either visiting in person at Mosaic North, or streaming our service in the south location.
- Why are we doing this? On one hand, we were asked. Also, we feel like this is God’s next step for us as a church. We love being a part of the body of Christ in the city, and we feel like we have a unique and meaningful Gospel witness to offer to the people of South Austin.
- How can I help? Two ways:a.) We have a form for two types of people: for those who are committed, and for those who are curious. If you are committed to this already, let us know on the form. Or, if you’re really curious but need some more answers about what this will mean for kids and stuff like that, fill it out as well. We anticipate having a Q and A for Mosaic folks around the beginning of October. Please note that we had some trouble with the QR code this past Sunday, and we were unable to capture many people’s names. Our apologies! Even if you scanned this Sunday, please do so again.
We do reserve the right to respectfully ask some of you who might want to go to consider remaining here. If we have too many key leaders transition, it might cause us too many problems.
b.) We would like to receive a financial offering to help with our expenses at Mosaic South. While the building is paid off, it does have some needs, and putting the strain of potentially hundreds more people there will surface new needs. Particularly in the areas of signage, technology, audio and video equipment, and upgrades to children’s classrooms, we have needs.
Would you consider being a part of that today?
Thank you, and we are committed to keeping you up to speed with all that going on with respect to this incredible, miraculous opportunity.
