Stuff You’ll Want to Read

Hi all—I know long emails typically don’t get read, but you should consider making an exception for this one, to make sure you are up to speed on everything happening at Mosaic! Here we go:

1. Deacon Nominations

If you were there last Sunday, you saw that we are nominating a large group of deacons to go along with our current team.

Deacons are New Testament servants of their local church, the qualifications of which are laid out in 1 Timothy 3, primarily.

As our church continues to grow, and needs continue to multiply, our current elder and deacon team have worked together to nominate this current group of amazing members from Mosaic, and here they are:

Ryea Jones
Wyatt Sullivan
Gerald Bowie
Tina Miranda
Nathan Brown
Barnabas Willis
Scott Lafferty
E.J. Patterson

Jaime Chapman
David Makovy
Poncho Hernandez
Sheila Chopin

Per our bylaws, there is a 30 day window for any current Mosaic member to bring forward any issue that would create a concern as to a candidate’s eligibility, and those concerns may be sent to elders@mosaicchurchaustin.com.

Deacon confirmations will take place on Sunday, December 13 at both services.

2. We have an extra special guest this weekend!

This weekend, we will be having Pastor Jim Laffoon from King’s Park Church, a large and multiethnic church in Durham, North Carolina.

Jim is not only the Teaching Pastor there, but functions as a senior prophetic voice within the Every Nation family of churches, of which King’s Park is a part. We will be having Jim in for a couple of special environments:

We will be having a special Encounter service tomorrow night, from 6-8 pm, with extra time given to the ministry of the Holy Spirit through Jim’s prophetic gift.

If you are unfamiliar with this type of ministry, you are in for a real treat and an incredibly encouraging night. Growing up in the church I did, I had no context for how God could speak and move in people’s lives through this type of spiritual gift, but I came face to face with it one night as a college student—where God used someone like Jim to speak things to me only a supernatural God could know, and I was born again in the midst of the moment. God used prophetic ministry to change my life forever!

1 Corinthinans 14 describes prophetic ministry like this:

“But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church…if an unbeliever or an inquirer comes in while everyone is prophesying, they are convicted of sin and are brought under judgment by all, as the secrets of their hearts are laid bare. So they will fall down and worship God, exclaiming, ‘God is really among you!'”

And this was my testimony! I came into a meeting, a man prophesied over me, and I fell down and wept at being loved and known by God, though I did not deserve it.

And of course, this is not Old Testament prophecy, with a capital “P”, but rather the New Testament form of it, which is something you have likely done many times whenever you encourage a friend or pray for them, if you’ve ever said something to the effect of, “God just put this on my heart for you”, or, “I just really feel this strongly for you right now”. Those kind of things are in the “vein” of New Testament prophecy, with a lower case “p”. Jim Laffoon is just a person who has spent years training to share things God puts on his heart for others.

Let me encourage you to come to this on Saturday evening. We will have our worship team there, Jim will share his heart for our church in a short teaching, and then we will spend quite a bit of time praying for individuals. Again, I can’t tell you how encouraging and honestly, faith-building it is to be in this type of environment. Childcare is provided. Please register for childcare here to let us know how many children we can expect!

Jim will also be preaching and ministering Sunday morning at both services. He is an excellent communicator with a huge heart to see healing in the human soul.

3. mKids Orientation—thanks to all of you who signed up to attend the orientation! It will be from 1-2 pm in the Family Room after second service.

That’s it! Can’t wait to see you soon—aren’t you glad you read to the end?

🙂
