Are we accidents, ruled by predetermined DNA?

Are we animals, ruled by instinct?

Are we logical creatures, on a journey to overcome emotion with reason?

What are we?

The picture of humanity the Bible has always supplied is one of complexity.

We are complex, and cannot, and must not be reduced…

…to atoms alone.

…to chemicals alone.

…to feelings alone.

…to a body alone.

…to a spiritual nature alone.

We were, as Psalm 139 tells us, fearfully and wonderfully designed—but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to figure out how to handle our God-given design and created complexity.

We need help—and a kind of help that has stood the test of time.

Fortunately, we have it, and to our rescue come the Psalms, which show us how to make sense of ourselves.

I hope you’ll join us over the next four weeks as we look at, and wrestle with, challenging feelings we feel and emotions we face in a new series called “Processing the Emotional Life.”

Together, let’s try to process the emotional life by traveling some ancient pathways: the book of Psalms.

My prayer is that we would find hope for the journey and a reframed perspective on what to do “with all the feels”!
