Discussion Guide: NXT Gen Sunday

Before We Get Started

For our discussion today, we will be using the sermon series discussion guides. If you would like to follow along you can access this discussion guide on the website at mosaicchurchaustin.com and then select “community group resources” in the menu options.

Prayer

Because the primary goal of our time together is to establish relationships and learn how to walk with one another in all that God has called us to be and do, we’d like to begin by praying for one another. So, does anyone have anything you’d like us to pray for or anything to share regarding how you’ve seen God moving in your life that we can celebrate together?

This Week’s Topic

NXT Gen Sunday

NXT Gen Sunday is about the “us” and all the good that the next generation represents. Every generation has their own amazing way of contributing to what makes Mosaic a unique local church with so much diversity and a bright future. On this Sunday, we celebrate Psalm 145:4, which said that  “One generation will commend your works to another.”

Discussion Questions

What generation are you from, and what do you love most about your current season of life?

Ephesians 3:8-11

Although I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ, and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.

What Community Is NOT:

  1. Community is not simply determined by those that you “click with or are drawn to naturally.
  2. Community is not something that is formed overnight.
  3. Community is not conflict-free

What kind of person do you usually click with naturally?

Was there ever a time when you needed community but struggled to find the right people?

What is the difference between conflict that erodes connection in a community and conflict that helps strengthen connections in a community?

What Community IS:

  1. Community means celebrating that we all bring different Gifts to the Kingdom.
  2. Community is surrounding yourself with people who call you to be greater.
  3. Community is putting unity into action.

Which of your personality or character traits most benefits the community you belong to?

Can you share about a time when the people in your life helped you to grow into a more Christlike person?

How does our larger collective community (like our city, state, nation, or world) benefit when we work together to put unity into action?

Take turns sharing one thing you admire or appreciate about the person to your right.

Closing Thought

Kelly Needham, Friendish

I need other people, and so do you. But sadly, because of our aversion to asking for what we need, to asking for help, many of us do not experience all the benefits of being in the community of faith. And that is no one’s fault but our own. We need to learn to take responsibility for our own needs and seek out solutions to them. And at the same time, we can’t take it personally if the first person we ask cannot be there for us. Because we know we don’t need that one specific person in order to be okay.

Take a moment to make space for the people present to ask for help or advice from the group, then close with prayer for one another.
