18 Jun Mosaic Updated Mask Policy
Hi everyone! As we all know, the last 15+ months of our lives have been, in a large part, dominated by conversation around policies directed toward and asking people to wear face masks in certain settings. These are things that we not only never thought we would be doing or discussing, but I also never thought I would be writing an email about…face mask policy.
It’s not exactly what I went into vocational ministry and pastoring for…but these are the times in which we live!
I am encouraged to tell you, as we said in the video in last week’s email, that beginning this Sunday, June 20, Mosaic Church is moving to a mask-optional environment throughout the building including mKids and the Student Center.
A few things I would like to emphasize about this:
- Optional means just that! Please continue to wear or not wear as you choose. That being said, our recommendation would be that of the Center for Disease Control, that unvaccinated individuals continue to wear masks when indoors or in larger groups.
- We are going to love one another, and not judge one another, no matter their choice. Period. A mask is not a symbol; at worship on Sundays, it is a choice. You will likely see me continue to wear one for the near future–please don’t judge me!
- I know some of you will want to continue to wear masks for a number of reasons: you are immunocompromised, you want to protect the people around you, you are accustomed to it for now, you don’t like hearing your singing voice…all these are valid reasons to continue to wear one if you so choose.
But, with both vaccination rates increasing, overall Covid numbers and hospitalization rates so continuously low, and the CDC’s recommendations, we felt comfortable moving to a mask-optional policy moving forward. I am grateful our city is in the situation it is, and I hope you are, too.
As you know, after the CDC’s announcement that individuals who are fully vaccinated could be indoors, in a worship service, mask-free, we have waited a few weeks to adjust our policy. We did this to allow space for those just becoming eligible for a vaccine to receive one as well as to give our congregation some time to psychologically adjust to (yet another) change.
All that to say…I love all of you, I’m grateful for you, and I look forward to seeing you this weekend, both online and, increasingly, in person.
With love,
Morgan
