Unless you’re brand new to Mosaic, you likely know the incredible, miraculous story about our South Austin location that opens on November 6 with an initial service at 11 am, weekly. Here are some important details and updates about what we are calling a “soft launch” for Mosaic Church South Austin (Mosaic South), located at 9910 Bilbrook Blvd. off of Slaughter Lane (formerly Texas Oaks Baptist Church):
- We have been working the past few weekends to update the flooring in the main worship center, adjust the stage, and get the walls painted. Additionally, quite a lot of work and updating is going into our children’s ministry area.
- We are constructing a new sound booth and will be doing treatments to the windows in the main room as well.
- Our pastoral team in particular has been working on establishing volunteer systems and areas of ministry, based on our understanding of who might be there, including children’s ministry, ushers, greeters, students (on Sunday evenings), coffee, music and production, among others.
- The former members of Texas Oaks Baptist Church (roughly 40 people) have been walked through the Mosaic Membership process on Sunday afternoons.
- Legally, the property is now an asset of Mosaic Church.
So, with all that in mind, why are we calling it a “soft launch?”
Primarily, our timeline to open for weekend worship services on November 6 was a reflection of our commitment to stewarding the people of Texas Oaks Baptist Church to the best of our ability, and we didn’t want to leave them without a church home for any real length of time.
That being said, not all of the desired facelifts to some areas of the building will be completed (our sound system will be a work in progress and the signage will only be partially installed). Before we try to make a more formal introduction to the larger community, we felt like communicating around a “soft launch” concept was the most accurate way to go.
As of now, I (Morgan) will be the lead pastor of the south campus as well, with a mostly live teaching team of myself, Brett Millican (taking the majority of Sundays), and Dr. Terrance Green, who lives about five minutes from our new location. Certainly, others who have preached before at Mosaic will make their way into that rotation as well, and again, we will be streaming from Mosaic North to Mosaic South from time to time.
Our hope is to complete all work projects and sound installation by Easter 2023, as we trust God to identify a permanent point person for the south campus to help us live out our “two families, one church” vision.
This is all tremendously exciting, and our staff in particular have been working hard to open in a short amount of time. I am so proud of them and all of you who have helped in some way.
The reality is, one of the greatest things that we can do as a church is help to establish new, healthy churches, and we are honored to labor in this spiritual endeavor for the glory of God.
Because of the generosity of the people of Texas Oaks, because of the commitment of the people of Mosaic Church, and because of the goodness of God, people will come to know Jesus Christ, lives will be changed, and a community (and beyond!) will be touched.
I’m glad to be a part of this with you!
