07 Oct Mosaic Singles Conference is this Friday & Saturday!
I was reading in Genesis 2 the other day and came across this passage:
“So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man…And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.” Genesis 2:21-22, 25
Now y’all know I like ribs, but this passage isn’t talking about a rack of baby backs…and honestly what it’s describing here at its core goes even beyond marriage. Here God has created the heavens and the earth….plants, bodies of water, animals and finally, as His final act of artistry, He creates humankind.
Fast forward where God decides it’s not good for man to be alone and that brings us to Genesis 2 where God makes woman out of man. On one hand, this is about Adam and Eve, who are the very man and woman to get “boo’d up” (basically an arranged marriage by God), but on the other hand, it goes beyond that and applies to all of us regardless of our marital status. In fact, I believe God wants to speak something specifically to anyone who is single through this passage.
In this one act, God not only talks about a union between man and woman, but He also demonstrates our need for community and how we are created for intimacy and vulnerability. Verse 25 says they “were both naked and unashamed”. Can you imagine a world where you experience no shame or humiliation? Not because all of the people you don’t like are disintegrated, like in Avengers: Infinity Wars, but because the security, safety, and intimacy God designed in heaven are constantly present in our earthly relationships.
What if our families and our friendships were so infused with God’s heavenly love and grace, that we could truly be naked and unashamed? Sounds like a pipe dream, right?! What if I were to tell you that it is possible? Not to necessarily experience it perfectly, but to chase after it. The truth is we live in a broken world filled with pain, trauma, and unmet expectations. But the bigger truth is our Redeemer lives! God has come to mend the broken, to give hope to those who are in despair, and to save the lost. And the best part is that He wants to use YOU!
We were created for community and vulnerability and the enemy, through sin, pushes against this because it’s redemptive, reflects God’s kingdom, and heals. I want to encourage you to be an agent of redemption…to allow God to use you…not when you get married, or when you “get your life together”, but right now to bring heaven here on earth.
If you’re single, I also want to encourage you to attend our upcoming virtual Mosaic Singles Conference this Friday and Saturday via Zoom. We will be talking about what it means to be Redeemed and how it can impact not just your life, but the lives of those around you. Not to mention we’re going to have a lot of fun too!
