22 Nov Mosaic Deacon Nominations
Hello church family,
I am encouraged to be bringing us all up to speed on what many of you heard on Sunday: our latest round of deacon nominations.
We have 11 nominees across both our Austin locations, and this is the first time we have had potential candidates come out of our south campus (for those who know him, Dr. Terrance Green was previously a deacon at our North campus, and transitioned down to attending and preaching at South).
What is a deacon? The title comes from the Greek word “diakonos,” and it means, primarily, a servant.
In Christian churches, deacons are considered visible representations of Christian service and ministry to the church. Besides the qualifications listed out in 1 Timothy 3:8-12, we have honed in what a deacon is and what a deacon does at Mosaic.
On top of the necessary foundation of Christian character, and besides being a voluntary position, we screen applicants on the basis of:
- alignment with church vision
- leadership of a ministry team or service area
- perceived ability to develop new leaders
- ability to serve above and beyond in their current season of life
They are nominated by our current deacon team and church staff and confirmed by our elders after an internal screening process. Here are our current nominees:
- Carlos Daniel
- Chris Bautista
- Connie Chen
- Jaustin Ohueri
- Justin Jaskowiak
- Nicole Cummings-Lewis
- Raul Reyes
- Renee Deese
- Scott Tyson
- Travis Reese
- Will Robinson
As is consistent with our by-laws, we offer the church a 30-day window to offer our elder team any feedback or concerns they may have about any candidate via this email: deaconnominees@
We have many incredible leaders across many areas across our church, and deacons are but one category.
They do carry a lot of responsibility, and we are grateful for the way they represent the servant leadership of Jesus Christ.
We plan on confirming those who make it through on December 15, unless something changes.
Thank you for your prayers for them and for those nominees who have families!
Blessings,
Morgan Stephens
