08 Sep Mosaic Church Fall Fast

You may have heard a bit about it over the last few weekends, but I did want to draw your attention to something incredibly vital happening this week at Mosaic Church, and that is our annual fast we do every fall to kick off the fall season in our church, which tends to be one of our most fruitful seasons here at Mosaic.

Why do we do this?

Fundamentally, being a Christian and being a part of a local church is a spiritual endeavor.

A church, therefore, is not a building.

It is not programs.

It is not lights or sound or music or messages.

The church of Jesus Christ is the people in that church—and therefore the quality of the people’s lives there and the depth of their walk with God is crucial.

In other words, your life, how you live it, and the depth to which you know and follow Jesus makes a significant impact on the church God has joined you to.

How can you take a step down—that is, toward more depth in your relationship with God?

The answer can be found in the mystery of the empty stomach.

The mystery of the empty stomach is that, through fasting—through abstaining from food (or something else from which you derive strength)—God comes in and fills, moves, touches, and heals.

Tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday we are doing just that—trusting that through our emptiness, God can and will come and fill.

Let me encourage you to “bite the bullet” and join with many others across the church and fast this week—after all, if not this week, then when?

Let’s do this together, and believe God to touch our lives, our church and city through this small sacrifice, and then come together this Friday night at 6 pm for a special moment to finish the fast together with prayer and worship.
