KidCon was a Hit!

Mosaic Family,

I want to take a moment and look back at something amazing that happened last week at Mosaic Church. Over the past weekend, we had over 80 kids, along with their families, participate in our first-ever virtual children’s ministry conference, KidCon!

As you may remember, in early 2020 we had already been planning to transition our VBS to a 3-day Kids Conference that would take place in both the summer and winter. Due to Covid-19, we had to cancel our Summer Conference, and as the pandemic continued, it became apparent that we wouldn’t be able to host our Winter Conference in person either.

Our amazing team, however, was determined to make something happen, and out of the desire to provide a special ministry opportunity for our kids, our Mosaic Virtual KidCon was born!

As we look back, we clearly see God’s hand at work, transitioning us to a 3-day virtual conference that will now be available for everyone online for years to come!

Let’s recap and celebrate the wonderful content created by an astounding team of volunteers led by our amazing KidCon Director and Mosaic Deacon, Lauren Duncan! Here’s a little glimpse of everything that went into KidCon:

  • Our Creative Arts Team, led by Vanessa Maleare, created three completely original, choose-your-own-adventure skits, performed by our own kids, and filmed/edited by Gregory and Malachi Jacobs.
  • Our Worship Team led by Amanda May and Seth Perez filmed three LIVE, full-band, full-stage worship experiences including dance motions, energy, and passionate hearts of worship. Jamie Smith led the broadcast production team for our worship sets.
  • Wendell Williams, Alyssa Jacobs, and I filmed our three main session talks unpacking the reasons for the rhymes in the parables of The Mustard Seed, The Laborers in the Vineyard, and The Prodigal Son.
  • The inimitable Tazz Kelly wrote an original song for EACH day’s parable and created an eye-catching bumper video while Kristina Kasprowicz developed all our stunning KidCon graphics and branding.
  • Dr. Rosalynn Smith, Morgan Benoit, and Dr. Quinn Smith each wrote and filmed a teaching video for our live Zoom breakout sessions on Worship, Community, and Mission. Amanda May, Melissa Williams, Bria Lacour, and Amya Oliver hosted our live breakout sessions for the 3rd-5th graders along with a team of volunteer small group discussion leaders.
  • Tina Miranda developed a series of Table Talk questions for each day’s parable to encourage families to sit down and dig deeper into the material with their kids.
  • Holly Smith and Holly Linders created multiple engaging activities and delicious snacks for each day that tied-in with the theme and message of the main session parable, and let’s be honest…the kids REALLY anticipate the snacks!
  • Mallary Brown and her team of volunteers planned, organized, and facilitated the sanitary assembly and distribution of all required supplies, instructions, snacks, and our custom t-shirts to make the event as convenient for our families as possible!
  • Alvin Brown worked hard to develop our website and technical capabilities enabling our kids to interact with the video and choose their own ending for each skit.

These are just SOME of an extensive list of amazing people who have helped us develop our first-ever Mosaic Virtual KidCon. We are deeply moved by the gift of time and talents this accomplishment represents.

We have an incredible, comprehensive virtual experience that will now be available to our Mosaic community and beyond. I look forward to celebrating the way God multiplies the seeds we have sown to bring about fruit we could never have imagined.

You can find all of the KidCon videos on our YouTube channel or go to mosaickidcon.com to get the entire package including supply lists, activity instructions, and discussion questions.

Thank you for your support during this time. You made this possible. It was truly a church-wide event where 56 kids and adults still had the chance to serve even though they might not be seen on a Sunday Morning. We appreciate what each of you does, whether at home or in person.

We can’t wait until the next KidCon and look forward to seeing you there as well!

With Gratitude,
Keivon Liburd
Pastor of Children’s Ministry
