KidCon Update

Hi everyone,

Again, on behalf of our Mosaic staff team especially, I just want to say thank you to everyone for their prayers and support in light of the unexpected passing of Pastor Keivon Liburd last week.

I have literally lost count of how many people have reached out in some way from our church, our Every Nation family and from the larger Christian community here in Austin. Your support is helping us remain upright, so again, my deepest gratitude goes out to you.

As with all of life in the face of tragedy, the question we all ask is, how do we move forward, without necessarily moving on? Bills have to be paid, laundry has to be done, children have to be held and tasks have to be accomplished. This is the way of life.

And so, as we consider how to move forward, without necessarily moving on, one of the biggest questions raised in the short term is, “What are we going to do about KidCon?”

KidCon is our brand-new, twice-a-year, breakout-style kids’ ministry conference! The first in-person one had been scheduled for December 3-5 (we had the inaugural KidCon virtually last year).

KidCon was Pastor Keivon’s brainchild and dream.

The upcoming one is just about ready to go. So what do we do?

I know this may seem strange, but we are actually excited to announce KidCon will go ahead as planned. We are doing this for two main reasons. Here’s why:

  1. Primarily, we believe this is what Pastor Keivon would have wanted us to do. What has been communicated to me from his family was that he would, most of all, want to know that mKids and all the children and families were doing well and in a good place. Going ahead with the conference helps make that heartbeat of his a reality. Putting on KidCon will enable us all to honor Pastor Keivon’s very best work and contribution to our church. He was very proud (and deservedly so) for this iteration of mKids’ ministry, and we will be proud to minister the heart of God through Keivon’s expression of it.
  2. We believe this is best for our children. With all the loss and heartbreak and “missing out” that many of our children have experienced over the past year and a half, we felt like this loss would just be heartbreak upon heartbreak. So, we hope this weekend will be healing as we come together in this way.

All that to say, we really are excited, even in the face of this tremendous loss, to honor Jesus and Pastor Keivon’s work like this. I hope you will be encouraged, if not excited about this, as well. We trust it will be a blessing to all the kids and to the families and team members involved. I hope you will consider having your children attend if they are not registered. Maybe you’ll even consider being a volunteer that weekend!

Most of the healing I have experienced so far has come in the presence of my church family. Let’s come together as a church for Pastor Keivon’s dream conference.

Much love,

Morgan
