Family,
It’s with a heavy heart that I write to inform you that yesterday morning our Pastor of Children’s Ministry, Keivon Liburd, suddenly and unexpectedly died while in the middle of a staff meeting.
Our staff who were present attended to him and attempted to revive him until emergency services arrived, who worked diligently to do the same, but, tragically, there was nothing that could be done. An autopsy will be conducted.
Obviously, we are first and foremost heartbroken for his wife, Katie who was able to be present with the emergency services team, and their two young boys.
While we have comfort from the knowledge that Keivon is in the presence of Christ, and that the Liburds have a strong support system, this is still an unimaginable road to walk for them.
You can be in prayer, certainly, for the Liburd family, as well as for our staff, who witnessed this tragedy.
We are working on what this means for our church family moving forward. First of all, memorial services are in the process of being scheduled, likely for the end of next week, but nothing has been arranged yet.
Second, the women’s conference will be postponed, as will Project Elevate and the Spanish Night of Worship, which were all scheduled for this weekend.
Finally, we will be working on communication as to what our Sunday services will look like, and parents can look below for resources for communication about this to their children, as well as grief counseling resources that Mosaic provides.
Katie has also welcomed any support that those who know and love the Liburd family would like to extend but requested that personal communication kindly be limited to text messages at this time. A meal train has been set up, and the invitation has been shared with those who served closely with Pastor Keivon. If you would like to support the family financially, visit Zellepay.com or the Zelle app and direct your giving to Katie Liburd.
Let me leave you with what I have expressed to everyone I’ve spoken with over the last few hours, which is that I was incredibly privileged to know Keivon and am so proud of him as a man, a husband, a father and a leader. The strength of where our children’s ministry is, in particular, can be directly attributed to his energy, vision and leadership. You should know that one of the last things he mentioned was how excited he was that a number of children in mKids had recently come to faith in Christ!
This is a loss and a blow, without question, but I am glad to know (and experience) that we “do not mourn as those who have no hope” (1 Thessalonians 4:13). We do have hope, even as we mourn.
Again, you can expect further communication about our Sunday services over the next few days.
Much love,
Morgan
