Important Update on Mosaic South

It’s hard to believe that just over 18 months ago, we launched the south location of Mosaic Church off of Slaughter Lane. After being part of Mosaic for more than two decades, I couldn’t have imagined a greater miracle story than the one we experienced in May of 2022 when we received a phone call from James Torrey, the former pastor of Texas Oaks Baptist Church (TOBC), asking if we would be open to adopting their congregation, receiving their facility and starting a south location.

Fast forward to November of the same year when we had our inaugural service where over a hundred people gathered to worship Jesus. Since then, our attendance has grown by roughly 15% both in 2023 and then again so far this year. By God’s grace, not only has the congregation at our south campus grown, but so has our staff – and I’d like to bring you up to speed on what could be called our Mosaic South Dream Team!

In September of last year, Jillian Pottberg came on staff as our Children’s Ministry Coordinator. In this role, she provides leadership support for mKids South Team Members, makes sure all of the classrooms are set up each week, and schedules volunteers just to name a few responsibilities. She and her family have been members of Mosaic for several years now. Jillian’s heart for families is evident in how she cares for our growing community, and we are so blessed to have her as part of our team.

In February of this year, Angelica Tyson joined our staff as our Facilities Tech and is responsible for maintaining the facilities at our south campus. In addition to keeping our facilities looking amazing, she preps spaces for meetings and events, works with vendors, and the list goes on. The Tysons were long-standing members of TOBC and jumped right in to serve the moment we launched Mosaic South. Angelica is a rock star, and our team wouldn’t be the same without her.

In that same month, we hired Loreigna Martin to be the Assistant Music Director for our south campus. With her strong background in musical theater, she makes learning, creating, and teaching vocal harmonies and techniques look easy. Loreigna’s administrative and relational gifting make her the perfect fit for this role, and we’re very fortunate to have her.

I am excited to announce that Sami Galecha has now joined our staff as the Site Director for Mosaic South. In this role, Sami will be responsible for providing leadership and administrative guidance to the staff at our south campus along with key volunteers. He will also function as the primary point of contact between our north and south campuses. We are excited about him being part of our team and believe he will add tremendous value with his operational lens and heart of compassion.

Lastly, as you may know, last April we began a trial period where we somewhat experimented with Dr. Terrance Green focusing his energy at Mosaic South, particularly as it related to preaching more frequently and being more present at our service planning meetings.

As you can imagine, because of the great job he has done, his role has evolved over the past year, and after much conversation and consideration, we have tweaked his role to accurately capture all the wonderful ways he continues to contribute to our south campus. With that being said, moving forward, Terrance will be in the official role of Lead Preacher for our south campus. He will continue to preach regularly and provide the same level of leadership he has been providing with some additional focus on collaborating with Sami to cast vision for our south campus and develop leaders.

It should be noted that these are all part-time roles, as several of the individuals I mentioned have indicated, for now, a desire to both maintain their current work/employment situations, as well as contribute energy and leadership to our south campus. Sami and Terrance in particular will function similarly to the way Pastor Brett and I do in how we work together to serve our pastoral team. We are constantly having conversations about how to better care for and empower our staff in a way that accomplishes the mission of our church.

This brings the total amount of part-time staff at Mosaic South to five people (Terrance, Sami, Angelica, Jillian, and Loreigna), which is really exciting and has happened in a relatively short amount of time! They will begin to meet regularly as a team to discuss details that pertain to Mosaic South specifically.

I can’t begin to express how thrilled we are about what this means for our south campus and how God is continuing to move in our church. Please continue to keep our Mosaic South in your prayers, and the next time you see anyone from the Mosaic South Dream Team, be sure to give them a big hug, high five, or that secret handshake…whatever floats your boat 🙂

Praise God for all his goodness to us.
