Handling the Word of Truth

For Christian people, one exhortation has rung true through the centuries.

It’s Paul’s exhortation to his protege, Timothy:

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)

Paul is simply saying–and I would agree–that how we consider and talk about the Christian scriptures really, really matters.

One of the really incredible ways we try to make it possible for you to live this out at Mosaic Church is through Leadership 215 (which takes its name from the verse above).

What is Leadership 215?

It’s a (roughly) two-year, theological training program developed by a globally diverse team of theologians and pastors within our Every Nation spiritual family. It’s for both vocational and non-vocational ministers (you see what I did there–that would be all of us!).

Including classes like Old and New Testament Survey, Church History, Hermeneutics (Bible interpretation), Homiletics (preaching) and Leadership, Leadership 215 is a tremendous way to deepen your understanding of both Christian scripture and leadership, while being coached by Mosaic Leadership and encouraged by fellow members in a cohort setting.

As you may have seen and heard last week, we “graduated” 27 men and women, who walked through this program together through thick and a whole lot of thin over the past two years. I am so proud of them and so thankful for people like Doug White (one of our deacons), and pastors Nathan Brown and Rosalynn Smith who have faithfully walked with and developed our group as people and as Christian leaders.

I would encourage everyone to consider how they are living out Paul’s exhortation, especially in an age of disinformation and content overload. What is a meaningful way to cut through the chatter and go deeper into what is both timeless and relevant?

Leadership 215.

As C.S. Lewis put it: “Everything that is not eternal is eternally out of date.”
