Flood and Disaster Relief: Central Texas Floods

The Situation

By now, we all know Central Texas experienced catastrophic flash flooding overnight into July 4. In some areas near Kerrville and San Angelo, up to 14.46 inches of rain fell—more than a season’s worth in just hours.

Unbelievably, the Guadalupe River rose 22 feet in three hours, reaching its second-highest level on record before floodwaters damaged monitoring equipment.

Closer to home, loss and damage is still being realized and assessed in Liberty Hill, Georgetown, Cedar Park and other neighborhoods. The situation is still active, fluid, and needs are still being assessed.

Even while many of our staff are with our youth at camp, we are actively monitoring the ongoing needs with ADRN and local officials. What can we do?

Support Needed for Recovery Efforts

Mosaic Church is partnering with ADRN as they are working to provide immediate relief, which includes your help. I am hopeful we can make a difference, on top of the nearly $10,000 we raised for flood relief last Sunday alone.

Here’s How You Can Make a Difference

PRAY: Please continue to lift up the families impacted by this tragedy and those courageously working in the search and rescue efforts.

DONATE: I know many of you have given already. Thank you! Please consider giving if you have not been able to yet, or if you were not present on Sunday. Your financial gift makes a tangible impact, offering comfort, dignity, and hope in the midst of despair. 100% of all donations will go to the disaster response and clean up efforts.

Here’s the link to give.

VOLUNTEER: We are actively monitoring the ongoing needs in coordination with ADRN and local officials, and will post updated serving opportunities here as we continue to assess and mobilize resources in the coming days. What has been communicated to us is to think marathon, not sprint. Offering relief in these types of disaster scenarios is not always efficient. It can often be imprecise. What matters most is our presence and time.

  • If you would like to volunteer and help this weekend in Kerrville, you can arrive individually (or go with friends) to the Cedar Point, Texas, Fire Department by 8 am on Saturday, and you will be directed. The main need at this point is chainsaw operation for debris removal (many trees have been uprooted).
  • If you would like to serve on a relief team going forward (they will need help over many weekends, as more than 1000 homes have been affected), please sign up here. We are being asked to assess your skill and interest level.

Once we get names collated, we will begin to coordinate appropriately with ADRN.

Ways You Can Help Throughout the Year

  • Take one of the trainings provided by ADRN. These trainings are useful to be ready now and for any future needs as fall and winter seasons are coming.
  • The Red Cross is ready for anyone needing additional resources. You can contact them at 800-733-2767.

Thank you for being the hands and feet of Jesus by helping to serve those impacted in our community.
