Discussion Guide: What’s After ATX – Week 4

Before We Get Started

For our discussion today we will be using this discussion guide with questions from this week’s video as well as some additional questions we have added for further conversation. If you would like to follow along you can access this discussion guide on the website at mosaicchurchaustin.com and then select “community group resources” in the menu options.

Prayer

As we get started let’s take a moment to pray and ask God to give us helpful, compassionate, and loving conversation with one another and to help us all walk away feeling encouraged and hopeful about what happens when we pass from this life to the next.

This Week’s Topic

Throughout the next 6 weeks we will looking at what the Bible has to say about life after death through the lens of near death experiences. Today, our focus will on:

The Highlight of Heaven

Discussion Questions

Questions from the video part 1

We all grow up with ideas about God, whether raised in a religious home or not. What have been your thoughts of God to this point?

NDErs consistently say, that God knows and loves you more than anyone on earth, and in God’s presence you’ll never want to leave. If true, how does that affect your perception of God?

What are you most looking forward to, or most fearful of, when you think about seeing God?

Questions from the video part 2

How does the thought of God revealing Himself through Jesus come across to you? Why?

If there’s evidence that God is real and wants to be known, and has revealed Himself in a relatable way through Jesus—does that make you want to learn and discover more about Him? Why or why not?

Additional Questions

Daniel 10:5-6

“I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude.”

Matthew 17:1-2

“And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.”

Revelation 1:12-15

“Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters.”

How does the fact that so many passages in the Bible corroborate the testimonies of so many NDErs strike you?

What do you think about the fact that so many people who did not believe in Jesus, or consider themselves to be Christian, encountered Jesus during their near death experience?

Do these people’s descriptions of what Jesus was like in their meeting Him differ from your perception of Jesus? If so, how?

Closing Thought

After discussing all of this, what is a good next step you feel  you need to take as a response?

Prayer

As we close our time together, is there anything we can pray for you right now?
