25 Nov Discussion Guide: The Domino Effect: Thanking
Before We Get Started
For our discussion today, we will be using the sermon series discussion guides. If you would like to follow along you can access this discussion guide on the website at mosaicchurchaustin.com and then select “community group resources” in the menu options.
Prayer
Because the primary goal of our time together is to establish relationships and learn how to walk with one another in all that God has called us to be and do, we’d like to begin by praying for one another. So, does anyone have anything you’d like us to pray for or anything to share regarding how you’ve seen God moving in your life that we can celebrate together?

Discussion Questions
What is one thing you are grateful for from the past year?
Expressing a Need
Luke 17:11-13
Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
Why did the ten men stand at a distance and ask for Jesus to heal them?
What kinds of things make it challenging for us to ask God what we need?
How does accepting our human vulnerability impact our faith as believers?
Trust and Obey
Luke 17:14-16
When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
How did Jesus respond to the men expressing their need?
How far did Pastor Morgan say the men would have had to walk to find a priest?
When they began walking, do you think they all believed they would be healed before they arrived at their destination?
Expressing Gratitude
Luke 17:17-19
Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
What did it cost the man to return back to offer his thanks to Jesus?
How would you describe Jesus’ response to the man who came back to give thanks?
What does his response show us about the value of expressing our gratitude to God?
Is there someone you need to reach out to this week to tell them you are thankful for the role they have played in your life?
Closing Thought
Tim Keller
It’s one thing to be grateful. It’s another to give thanks. Gratitude is what you feel. Thanksgiving is what you do.
Take some time to pray together, each person giving thanks to God for something he has done for them.
