15 May Discussion Guide: Not Alone Week 5
Before We Get Started
For our discussion today we will be using the sermon series discussion guides. If you would like to follow along you can access this discussion guide on the website at mosaicchurchaustin.com and then select “community group resources” in the menu options.
Prayer
Because the main goal of our time together is to establish relationships and learn how to walk with one another in all that God has called us to be and do, we’d like to begin by praying for one another. So, does anyone have anything you’d like us to pray for, or anything to share regarding how you’ve seen God moving in your life that we can celebrate together.
This Week’s Topic
Today, we continue our new series, launched on Easter Sunday, titled Not Alone. In this series we will be looking at how the Gospel gives us the promise of God’s presence, and the blessing of one another, as we go through life in the midst of a broken world. No matter how difficult life might get, the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus reminds us we are not alone

Not Alone in the Gospel
Discussion Questions
What was it about Mosaic that impacted you enough to make you want to continue being a part of this community? Why?
Acts 6:1
“Now in these days when the disciples were increasing in number, a complaint by the Hellenists arose against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution.”
We know this isn’t the only dispute in the early church. Most of Paul’s letters were literally written to address disputes.
Why do you think disputes arose between Jews and Gentiles in the early church?
Why might there be disagreements or tensions in a multiethnic church in our modern times?
If you’ve been at Mosaic for any considerable amount of time, have there been any challenging moments in your own life as it pertains to being part of this multiethnic community?
Ephesians 3:1-3, 6, 8-10
“For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles— assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you, how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, so that through the church the manifold (multicolored) wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places.”
Why does Paul say those kinds of tensions and challenges are worth holding and carrying? In other words, what is the benefit/blessing of being part of a multiethnic church community?
1 Corinthians 1:10
“I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.”
Why do you think our culture is growing more and more polarizing and divided?
How might a diverse, yet unified, church community loving one another, serving one another, and walking through life together bring healing, or at least set an example to the world around us?
Closing Thought
How does the Gospel of Jesus enable, empower, and invite us to be that kind of church and those kinds of Christians?
