Discussion Guide: Differently The Same – Mission Part 2

Before We Get Started

For our discussion today we will be using the sermon series discussion guides. If you would like to follow along you can access this discussion guide on the website at mosaicchurchaustin.com and then select “community group resources” in the menu options.

Prayer

Because the main goal of our time together is to establish relationships and learn how to walk with one another in all that God has called us to be and do, we’d like to begin by praying for one another. So, does anyone have anything you’d like us to pray for, or  anything to share regarding how you’ve seen God moving in your life that we can celebrate together.

This Week’s Topic

This week we continue our new Fall series titled Differently the Same. A lot has changed over the past two years, both out there in our world and internally within each of us. However, in light of all the things that are different today, there are some things that remain the same. One of those things is the purpose, mission, and vision we are called to as followers of Christ. During this sermon series we will be taking a fresh look at that mission, and the core values we believe God has called us to pursue together as Mosaic Church: Worship, Community and Mission.

What Mission Looks Like Part 2

Discussion Questions

Dustin Willis, Life on Mission: Joining the Everyday Mission of God

“Over and over throughout the Gospels, we see that while Jesus consistently poured His life into the people closest to Him, He sacrificially served all those whom His life intersected… Sacrificially investing in others is anchored in the ability to have a care for them that drowns out our own ability to focus on self.”

What makes living on mission with God so difficult?

What does it take to overcome those difficulties?

Do you think it’s worth it to persevere and overcome those obstacles?

If so, why? If not, why not?

Romans 5:6-8

“For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

According to Scripture and the Gospel, how did Jesus answer that question of “is it worth it” when it came to His mission to save you?

How can the answer to that question impact the way we see and respond to God’s call for us to go?

Closing Thought

Is there a specific mission we feel God might be calling us to as a group? In other words, what missional passion has God laid on your heart?
