18 Jul Discussion Guide: Beloved Week 3
Before We Get Started
For our discussion today we will be using the sermon series discussion guides. If you would like to follow along you can access this discussion guide on the website at mosaicchurchaustin.com and then select “community group resources” in the menu options.
Prayer
Because the main goal of our time together is to establish relationships and learn how to walk with one another in all that God has called us to be and do, we’d like to begin by praying for one another. So, does anyone have anything you’d like us to pray for, or anything to share regarding how you’ve seen God moving in your life that we can celebrate together.
This Week’s Topic
This week we continue our series titled Beloved. This series will be taking us through the book of 1 John. We will be taking a look at how the Gospel, the true story of the sacrificial love Christ has for us, makes us whole.
Today’s Topic
Made Whole Through Spiritual Family
Discussion Questions
What comes to mind when you hear the word “family?” Is that a good memory or bad memory? Why?
John 1:11-13
“He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
What does it mean to be a child of God?
How do you think God wants us to treat one another as brothers and sisters?
How do you think our Father wants us to treat not yet a part of His family that He is calling into adoption?
People need to experience family the way God intended it to be so they can better understand what God has intended them to experience.
Ephesians 6:10-12
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
If you have a biological brother or sister, and someone were to mess with them, how would you respond?
How do you think our Father wants us to respond when we see our spiritual brothers and sisters getting messed with by the “evil one?”
What are some ways in which our spiritual brothers and sisters get attacked by the “evil one?”
How does the decisive victory of Jesus over the evil one give us the confidence to fight alongside one another?
Closing Thought
What part is God calling you to play in helping Mosaic be the intergenerational family He has called us to be?
