20 Sep Discussion Guide: A Prayer For – Week 2
Before We Get Started
For our discussion today we will be using the sermon series discussion guides. If you would like to follow along you can access this discussion guide on the website at mosaicchurchaustin.com and then select “community group resources” in the menu options.
Prayer
Because the main goal of our time together is to establish relationships and learn how to walk with one another in all that God has called us to be and do, we’d like to begin by praying for one another. So, does anyone have anything you’d like us to pray for, or anything to share regarding how you’ve seen God moving in your life that we can celebrate together.
This Week’s Topic
Today we continue our new series called A Prayer For…where we will be taking a look at the book of Psalms to learn not just what to pray, but how to pray. We see all through the Psalms a rawness, an authenticity, and a passionate love for God’s presence and God’s heart regarding the brokenness of the world around us. Over the next 6 weeks we will journey together as we focus on developing a life of prayer and seeking God’s Kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Today’s Topic
A Prayer for Family
Discussion Questions
How would you describe your family life when you were a kid?
If you could go back in time and change something about your family experience what would it be?
Genesis 1:28
“And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””
Genesis 8:16-17
“Go out from the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you… and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.”
Genesis 15:4-5
“And behold, the word of the Lord came to Abram: “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.” And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.””
Genesis 35:10-11

John 13:34-35
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
How did Jesus model family for us?
Acts 2:44-47
“And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
How did the early church live out that call to be the family of God?
Philippians 2:3-8
“Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
James 1:19-20
“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.”
Romans 12:9-10
“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.”

How might living out the Gospel in that way allow us to impact the world around us?
