Building Community At The Park

Building Community At The Park

The Greater Austin Area is a treasure of beautiful outdoor spaces. One thing that has benefited many cities including Austin over the past three years is an added emphasis on the beautification and practicality of these spots as meeting places. There’s even a national non-profit organization (National Recreation and Park Association) “dedicated to building strong, vibrant and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation.”

As the people of the church, this gives us fortunate gathering places to meet outside of the building of the church as we come together and also seek to invite others into the church community. We have Singles’ Park Days, Student Park Days, Mosaic Community meetings, an annual Easter potluck and countless other relationship-building and disciple-making opportunities at our local parks.

But our largest opportunity each year for getting all of Mosaic together is Mosaic’s Day at the Park!

Here are five things to know as you hopefully prepare to attend:

This invitation is extended to all, and that means YOU! We hope to see you on Saturday, May 6 from 10 am – 2 pm at Lakewood Park in Leander. From Mosaic South, this is a 50-minute drive that we think you’ll find worth the distance. (It’s harder to find a park that can host over 500 of us at once!)

This particular park has amenities that make it easy to find something you enjoy doing. The splash pad is captivatingly fun for children. Skates, bikes, scooters and skateboards are highly recommended for the skate park or getting around. And, in Mosaic style, we’ll also incorporate our own set of competitive games. (You might want to charge your phone and have the GooseChase app downloaded for a scavenger hunt.)

We’re leaving the church building to be light in the community. You are encouraged to invite your local friends, neighbors or extended family. We’ll extend hospitality to anyone who may be at the park that day.

Burgers, hot dogs, and the toppings for these, along with water, will be provided by Mosaic. We need church members to help with the following food items:
Last name A-R: Please bring a family-sized side item.
Last name S-Z: Please bring a family-sized dessert.

To make all this happen, about 120 volunteer slots are needed to be filled with special folks who want to make this day memorable and the event impactful. Go here to see where you may like to serve.

Are you dedicated to what we’re building? We’re so excited to see you there!

Out of an abundance of safety, tonight’s event has been CANCELED to be rescheduled for the summer months. Ladies, we are sad to not see you this evening, but please stay safe and up-to-date on the local weather precautions.

Community Groups

Community groups are where we seek to live out the Gospel in relationship with others within a smaller community context.
