17 Mar Beginning this Sunday
I’m really excited about many things coming up or in play here at Mosaic: our community group field day, a upgraded focus on discipleship in our community groups, and all the behind-the-scenes work on our upcoming Easter service, which will be great.
But the thing I’m most excited about, and the thing that is capturing my attention the most is, well (without sounding too Sunday school-answer-ish), Jesus.
I find his person astonishing.
I find his teaching astonishing.
I find his life, his heart, his claims, his death and his resurrection all astonishing.
I’d like for you to peel back your cultural layers and frequent exposure to his name for a moment…
… and consider the fact that the single life of a Jewish man in the first century, without wealth, power or education, has changed the world more than any other person.
I’d also like for you to consider that so much good and so much bad has been done in his name over the centuries,
the fact that his name is used as a curse word,
the fact that movies are still made about him,
the fact that people are loved worldwide in his name,
the fact that CNN (and other major media sites) run article after article intending to debunk his claims or his existence,
and the fact that he remains simultaneously loathed and adored…
…and when you do, you realize you have something, and someone, worth talking about.
And so, that’s what we’re going to do.
For the next four weeks, leading up to Easter, we are going to be looking at the last week of Jesus’ life. Where did he go? What did he say? Why did he do the things he did? Could that last week have gone any other way? And what does it all mean?
After all, at the heart of our faith is not an idea, but a person,
and I’d like to take a look at that person along with you.
I’ll see you soon.
