Afghanistan + Hurricane Ida + Haiti Relief

Hi all,

I wanted to bring to your attention a number of ways to make a difference in some difficult global (and relatively local) situations that you have likely been keeping up with.

First, Afghanistan.

I have watched, again, likely as you have, the difficult and deadly situation unfolding in Afghanistan. This unfolding of events has been on my heart and mind in particular, as Carrie and I have family serving in the military in the Middle East.

Our staff has been praying over the situation, grieving the lives lost and believing for the salvation of those in that nation. I would encourage you to join us in prayer to continue believing for God’s mercy there at our weekly Friday church-wide prayer meeting at 7 am via Zoom. Here is the link (register here to get periodic prayer meeting updates).

We know we have Afghani refugees arriving here in our city. As the church of Jesus, we have contacted Refugee Services of Texas (RST) to ask how we can help; some of you may remember them as our Live Big Sunday recipient a number of years ago.

What they have told us is this: they do not need any more volunteers at this time, as thankfully they have a bunch already! What they do need is financial assistance in the form of $100 Visa gift cards.

If you would like to contribute towards RST on behalf of refugees, please click here and choose Crisis Relief to give through our Mosaic website. Funds will go directly to RST.

Second, Hurricane Ida.

Since Sunday, we have watched this storm barrel through our nation – flooding many places and displacing residents from their homes and cities. Our staff has friends and relatives in the storm’s path, as do many of you.

We are connected with the Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN), and so far they have not communicated to us a need to house evacuees. However, they partner with local churches on the ground in affected areas, and have a huge need for Survivor Care Kits. Get the content list PDF to create and deliver your own kit directly to ADRN.

Third, Haiti.

Finally, while the events in Haiti (a presidential assassination, an earthquake and a major storm) have trickled out of the news, the reality remains that the Haitian people are struggling (again). We have Haitian members here at Mosaic, and they have been deeply affected by what has happened there.

You can give towards helping some missionaries on the ground there, with whom we have connections, by giving to Crisis Relief here through our website. In situations like this, empowering local Christians and churches to be a blessing and to minister is a strategic financial decision to make.

As you can see and feel, there have been many places and people struggling right now (this isn’t even close to a complete list, of course).

As the church of Jesus, I am grateful to make a difference along with you.

Blessings to you,

Morgan
