Many of you know Mosaic Church is a proud part of a global spiritual family called Every Nation (EN).
My wife Carrie and I both came to faith in Christ through the outreach of ENC (Every Nation Campus) while college students at the University of Houston in 1995, and have been a part of it ever since.
We have been privileged to watch Every Nation Churches and Ministries grow into a movement that now has 700 churches in 81 nations worldwide, in addition to being present on more than 1300 college and university campuses.
This Sunday, we have a unique opportunity to hear from the co-founder and global president of EN, Dr. Steve Murrell.
Steve is originally from Mississippi, and as a recent graduate of Mississippi State in 1984, went on a 2 week mission trip to Manila, in the Philippines. God moved in an incredible way during those two weeks, which turned into thirty years and what has become one of the largest churches in the world, known as Victory Manila. With a hyper focus on discipleship and reaching the college campus, Victory has grown into a church of 90,000 in 14 locations…but if you get to know Steve, you wouldn’t know it.
As humble and self-effacing as someone with an outsized impact can be, Steve embodies the anti-platform ethos that is an antidote to much of the excesses that parts of the evangelical church have unfortunately become known for. Having transitioned his church to Filipino leadership, Steve now travels the globe, mostly splitting his time between Nashville and Manila, and can walk into the church he founded without being recognized.
Along with having an amazing family of children and grandchildren, being a prolific author and a great communicator, Steve is an active motorcycle enthusiast (if you want to get him going, ask about whatever next riding trip he has planned!).
Steve became a friend and mentor to me when our family relocated to Nashville, and hosted me when I went to Manila to preach at a conference back in 2008. I am thankful for his influence in my life.
All that to say, he’s more than just the guy who does the prayer and fasting videos we tend to watch each January!
This will be his first time here since I became the lead pastor in 2010, and I look forward to being able to hear him cast a global vision for our church in the way only he can do, as he finishes our look at the book of Colossians.
See you Sunday for this unique opportunity.
