25 Jun 2021 Six-Month Update
It’s June 2021.
We are halfway through the year… the year after the year that changed our lives in many ways.
So, where are we?
I’d like to give you, quickly, an update as to the state of Mosaic Church (I think this will be encouraging for you!), broken down across a number of categories:
- What’s new on Sundays?
As you know, we did a partial reopening in March, had a tremendous Easter, removed capacity restrictions in May and moved to a mask-optional environment last week. Altogether, there have been so many changes, but one thing has been consistent: God’s presence in our midst, week after week. I feel it as strongly in our gatherings as I ever have. Why? God is just that good, and He loves us.
We currently have two services, are averaging roughly 500 in in-person weekly attendance (this number is growing weekly), and have roughly another 1,000 or so people, including children, represented online every week. At some point, possibly before the end of the year, we will be moving to a third service (for those of you who are new, pre-Covid we had four services every Sunday).
- How are we impacting the community?
Last week, Mosaic Church was asked to host the 144th class of Austin Police Department cadets as part of their brand-new training program. We had 104 cadets, a number of APD officers, plus the chief of police of Cedar Park and his command staff here. I (Morgan) and two other pastors from the Austin area were panelists, and Rosalynn Smith, our pastor of mission, was the moderator. We were asked, as part of something called Community Connect, to offer our perspective as to the state of policing in Austin, the role that APD plays and how we can work together to make the city great for all people groups. It was a meaningful couple of hours, and we ended by exhorting them to trust in Jesus and praying for them. We were even asked to do it again next time — to shape future APD cadets!
- Where are we with our recent facilities’ financial ask?
On May 16, we did a special ask to build out space on our current property for the work we do with Street Ministry (what we do, week in and week out, has exploded in scope and impact over the last year), and for some additional overflow space for Student Ministry (middle school and high school students). Our goal was $65,000…and together, we gave right at $110,000, which is incredible. The additional funds will allow us to do a couple of things we had wanted/hoped to do in those spaces but were prepared to live without. You all have made it possible for it all. Thank you.
- What’s happening this summer?
We will be having one more Women’s Bible Study night next Thursday, and it’s not too late to register for that. There are men’s events coming up soon (details to come); an Every Nation Campus Book Study happening bi-weekly through August…and (drumroll)…a big Typhoon Texas Waterpark church day coming up in August (details to come, of course)…all this among other things, including our GROW classes. Head to our website for more information!
That’s it! Can’t wait until we are together again this Sunday as we conclude our series on “How to Follow Jesus Christ” and give you a sneak peek at what’s coming up next!
