09 Aug Who wins National Championships and Super Bowls? This Guy Does.
If you’re new to Mosaic, or if you have not heard (or if your husband or significant other has not heard!) our annual Mosaic Men’s Retreat is coming up and the deadline to register is approaching. You may know that these moments each year are some of the highlights of what we do and who we are as a people, and I really, really want you to be there!
One of the things I’m most excited about is introducing you to our special guest at the retreat, Pastor Tim Johnson from Orlando World Outreach Center in Orlando, Florida. Tim is not only a gifted communicator with a passion for building men, but in his life before pastoring, Tim was an incredible, championship-winning football player.
He was an All-American lineman who helped Penn State win an NCAA national championship in 1986 and then went on to play 8 years in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Redskins, winning a Super Bowl with Washington in 1991. He was voted player of the year by his teammates in 1993 and went to a Pro Bowl that year. You won’t meet too many men who won both an NCAA National Championship and a Super Bowl, but Tim is one of them!
During his time in the league, Tim worked tirelessly in inner cities and with the homeless, before going full-time into vocational ministry after retiring from his professional career.
In 2007, he and his wife, Le’Chelle, and their three daughters moved to Orlando to plant what is now a thriving multi-ethnic church and he travels and speaks to men all over the country (in addition to playing in quite a few celebrity golf tournaments raising money for great causes). He once spent three weeks prayer walking across Florida- you should ask him about his incredible journey and experiences!
Tim and I have been friends for many years through our connection in Every Nation Churches, and most recently we spoke on a panel together about multi-ethnic churches at the EN World Conference last month.
There is far more than just Tim at our retreat – we have innumerable activities planned, great facilities (it’s at Camp Tejas in Giddings, Texas), and we will be joined by men from 4 other Every Nation Churches around Texas: Houston, San Antonio, San Marcos, and Abilene.
But, Tim is definitely a person, leader and minister you don’t want to miss, and he is in his element doing men’s retreats.
So, go ahead and register if you haven’t, and arrange to take the day off from work on Friday (It actually starts Thursday night).
I can’t wait to be there with you!
