Jesus: The One Who Rises

In this series, we are looking at the life of Jesus in the book of Mark.

Why Mark?

Well, Mark is the shortest Gospel, and therefore, in real way, is the most exciting Gospel, and it’s also (most likely) the earliest Gospel written.

Also, if you didn’t know, as much as it’s called “The Gospel of Mark”, it could also be called “The Gospel of Peter”, as Mark was a close companion of Peter’s, and, if you’ll notice, hardly anything happens without Peter present in the book, which means this:

It is really an eyewitness account of the history-shaping life of Jesus of Nazareth.

So, we are going to be lifting up the “eyewitness-ness” of the book, and as we go, we’ll be dividing it up into a kind of trilogy of sorts, seeing the key aspects of the person of Jesus that Mark and Peter are lifting up: Jesus as the Man Who Acts, the God Who Heals, and the King Who Suffers.

All of Christian Scripture is helpful and profitable, and it all helps us in its own way: The Hebrew Scriptures help lay a foundation, the book of Acts and all the Epistles help us see the importance of mission and the church, and Revelation helps inspire us as to the life that is to come…but in the end, it all comes back to the life and person of Jesus Christ, and there’s nowhere better to look than in the Gospels, and in particular in the Gospel of Mark.

We’re trusting God to do some amazing and even miraculous things among us as we go on a journey through it together.
