22 Aug It’s Time to Engage
Welp, school’s back in session. The tardy bell has rung. Sighs of relief can be heard from moms and dads, while sighs of regret can be heard from boys and girls. Target looks like a tornado ran through it. 183, IH-35 & Mopac are much more interesting to travel in the mornings. A new school year is totally here.
For those who don’t know me, I have the honor of serving as the Campus Director for our campus ministry at The University of Texas. For me and the Every Nation Campus (ENC) team, the beginning of the fall semester is just as vibrant, exciting & fun-packed as it is for all of you.
A new school year for me means a chance to meet incoming and returning students and engage them with the Good News of Jesus. I truly love this time of year. It’s safe to assume that the vast majority of students, especially those from Texas, grew up with some sort of Christian background. I was no different but never really had a relationship with God. Also like most college students, I went off to a place like UT where I was exposed to new and challenging ideas and kind of lost my way. By the time I was a junior, the excitement and newness had worn off and anxiety and depression set in. By God’s grace, a friend of mine who was “just a student” felt empowered to bring the Gospel into my life. Just because of a simple invitation, I found freedom and hope in Jesus. My life changed because someone chose to engage.
I believe that beyond the campus – in your workplace, in the classroom, in your neighborhood, in the airport, in the H-E-B curbside pick-up – we can engage the culture around us and numbers will be added to the kingdom. A young woman felt empowered and equipped to engage in Gospel conversations with others. She didn’t have a church title or seminary degree, yet she was called to reach me for Jesus and I’m forever grateful (#ThanksNneoma). Church, we can engage the culture around us in the same way.
On Saturday, September 14 from 9:00am – 12:00pm, we have a great opportunity to be equipped to engage the culture around us by a special guest, Pastor Ernie Kruger from Mid-Cities Church in Midland, Texas. A former professional rugby player from South Africa, Ernie is an amazing and dynamic evangelist who has blessed a number of campuses and churches in our Every Nation family. During his time as the campus director of our ENC chapter at The University of North Texas (UNT), Ernie used his powerful gift of evangelism to empower his students to engage UNT and grew a thriving campus ministry.
Now serving as the Pastor of Evangelism at Mid-Cities, Ernie will be visiting a handful of campuses and churches in our region to help with outreach and training this fall. We are excited to have him with us to give us the tools to engage others. Please join us for this event being held here in our Mosaic Student Center – you don’t want to miss it!
