Helping Children During Loss

Helping Children During Loss

On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, Mosaic lost our beloved Pastor of Children’s Ministry Keivon Liburd due to sudden and tragic death. Handling this loss can be hard for our adult congregation, but this will also affect the children and teens in our congregation. It can be hard to know how to share the news with your child. Here are a few things to consider.

  • Talk to your child and be direct and honest. Avoid euphemisms such as he’s sleeping or he’s visiting Jesus. Instead, let the child know that he died. This is hard, but it is a part of life.
  • Ask your child if he or she is ok. Then give them space to verbalize the feelings.
  • Help your child understand that grieving is normal – though unpleasant – and not a problem to be fixed.

Finally, know that our counselors are available to talk with you and/or your child(ren) should you need this option as well. Death is hard and painful. Take the time to grieve this loss.

Mosaic is offering these grief sessions free of charge for staff, members and attendees.
