19 Sep Fall Festival 2018

Have I ever told you about that time I dressed up in my 4-year old son’s Tootsie Roll costume? Oh yeh! It was awesome. Seems were busting and I was glistening (aka sweating profusely) under the polyester and cotton filled lining inside that thing, but I rocked that Tootsie Roll costume like a boss.
Now, you may be wondering why on earth a 200-pound man in his late 30s was dressed up in a 4-year-old’s Tootsie Roll costume, and you would be perfectly within the realm of normalcy if you were. Well, there are two reasons I chose to display that costume in all its chocolaty-brown glory; first, it was the day of our annual Mosaic Fall Festival, and second, my wife dared me to do it. That, my friends, is a recipe for disaster. However, that day is still a day my kids talk about—a day our family still laughs about—because we had a blast celebrating with our friends and church family and rejoicing in God’s goodness that we experience when we are with the people we love.
And, that is why we are putting in long hours and lots of planning over the next six weeks as we prepare for this year’s Fall Festival taking place on Sunday, October 28, at 4 pm. We want to celebrate together, laugh together, play together, and take a moment to recognize the goodness of God that we get to experience in, and through, one another’s lives.
With that said here are 3 reasons I want to see you there:
- As God’s people, we need to have fun together. I mean, we are recipients of the greatest news in the history of the universe. Shouldn’t we also be a people who know how to rejoice and have fun in light of that news?
- Others need to see what God’s Kingdom is all about. The church at large has unfortunately come to be associated with words like uptight, judgmental, boring, and stiff. Our community groups will be performing projects in October to display God’s Kingdom through loving service. The Fall Festival gives us an opportunity to invite the people we serve to also see God’s Kingdom through joyous celebration and to get a taste of the loving community you have hopefully experienced at Mosaic.
- You, and the people you bring, will have a great time. This year we are going to have bigger and better games and activities than ever before, and though you will probably not get to see me in an extra medium Tootsie Roll costume, you will get to experience human foosball, live music, costume contest, face painting, inflatables, pie baking contest, multiple food trucks, Tiny Tot Land (full of booths for all your little ones), Sports Arena, and lots of new booths and activities.
Sounds like a good time right there. However, to make that good time happen we also need you to be part of making this day great for one another, and for our neighbors at large. Last year we had over 1,000 people in attendance and every second of sugary bliss they experienced was accomplished by the work of an amazing volunteer team. This year we are anticipating even more people and in order to make this event as great as we all want it to be it is going to take the effort of many, not just the talent of a few.
We’ve got opportunities in so many areas to serve while having a blast! Everything from taking a 30-minute shift at a booth, to popping popcorn, to helping our parking lot run smoothly or twisting balloon animals for kids (even if all you can make is a snake). There’s a space for all of your talents! What a fun way for us to serve the city of Austin together! Click here to sign up to volunteer.
So, to summarize. I can’t wait to see you at this year’s Fall Festival. And, I can’t wait to serve alongside you at this year’s Fall Festival.
It’s going to be a great day that I hope and pray your friends, children, and family will be laughing about and remembering for years to come.
Brett
