Today’s Discussion
This week we begin a new series called Making A Mosaic. We will be taking a look at not only the story of Mosaic Church, but also the future of Mosaic and what God is calling us to be and do, both in the city of Austin and to the world abroad. What is it going to take for us to get there? And, what is that going to mean for us as a community of people seeking to live lives centered on the Gospel? Let’s dive in and see what goes into making a Mosaic.

What would you say is God’s purpose in forming the Church?

The purpose of the church is to be God’s chosen people, His “called out ones” as the Greek word for church means, through whom God restores His purposes for creation itself. Namely, that we would reflect, or bear God’s image, accurately by shining the light of His love, justice, honesty, mercy, grace, provision, righteousness to one another and the world, and simultaneously reflecting the praise, adoration, worship, thanksgiving and glory back to God that He alone deserves. The church, in other words, is meant to be the picture on the puzzle box that shows the rest of the world what God’s Kingdom, what His design for creation, is supposed to look like. We are meant to help others look at the broken pieces of their lives and show them how God can put it all back together in Christ Jesus. The church is meant to be what Israel was called to be, a nation amongst the nations who shows the world that Yahweh is the One True God and that His Kingdom, His authority, His love, is different than anything man has ever imagined.
El propósito de la Iglesia es ser la gente escogida de Dios, sus “llamados”como la palabra Griega significa, por la cual Dios restaura sus propósitos para la misma Creación. Es decir que debemos reflejar, o llevar la imagen de Dios correctamente al proyectar la luz de su amor, justicia, honestidad, misericordia, gracia, provisión y virtud hacia otros y hacia el mundo; mientras simultáneamente damos la alabanza, adoración, gracias y gloria a Dios, porque Él es el único que se lo merece. La Iglesia, en otras palabras, debe ser la imagen en la caja del rompecabezas que le enseña al resto del mundo lo que el Reino de Dios, lo que su diseño para la creación debe de ser. Estamos destinados a ayudar a que otros vean las piezas quebradas de sus vidas y mostrarles cómo Dios puede repararlas a través de Cristo. La Iglesia está llamada a ser lo que Israel fue llamado a ser, una nación entre naciones que muestra al mundo que Yahveh es el Único Dios verdadero y que Su Reino, Su autoridad, Su amor, es diferente a todo lo que el hombre se haya imaginado.
Colossians 1:15-20
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”

Colosenses 1:15-20

Churches get sideways because men and women lose sight of what the church is meant to be according to God’s design. We turn church into a means to gain our own end of reputation, acceptance, significance or political power. Remembering that Jesus is the Head of the Church keeps us focused on what we ought to be focused on. It reminds us that we have been brought together and called to the mission of Christ, to serve under His authority, to point people to His glory and His name, and not to the glory or name of any other human being. Remembering Colossians 1 also reminds us of the grace that has been extended to us and the love in which we stand, and therefore should give us the motivation to be loving and gracious to one another as well.
Las Iglesias se desvían cuando hombres y mujeres pierden vista de lo que la Iglesia debe de ser según el diseño de Dios. Tratamos a la Iglesia como un medio para obtener reputación, aceptación, significado, o poder político. Recordando que Cristo es la Cabeza de la Iglesia nos mantiene enfocados en lo que debemos de enfocarnos. Nos recuerda que hemos sido reunidos y llamados a la misión de Cristo, a servir bajo su autoridad, a guiar a la gente a Su gloria y Su nombre, y no a la gloria o el nombre de otro ser humano. Recordando Colosenses 1 también nos recuerda de la gracia que se nos ha sido extendida, y de el amor en el cual estamos, y entonces Colosenses 1 nos debe de motivar a amar y ser misericordiosos con los demás.
Colossians 1:3-6
“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth.”
What kind of “fruit” should a church submitted to Jesus produce?

Colosenses 1:3-6
“Damos gracias a Dios, el Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, orando siempre por ustedes, pues hemos oído de su fe en Cristo Jesús y del amor que tienen por (hacia) todos los santos, a causa de la esperanza reservada para ustedes en los cielos.
