05 Nov Discussion Guide: Gratitude Week 1
Prayer
Take the first 10 minutes of your time together to listen to what God is doing in one another’s lives and pray for any specific needs people in your group may have.
This week we begin a short break from our (In) Breaking series to focus on the topic of Gratitude. What is gratitude? Is it the same as being grateful? And, how can we, as the people of God, show the world the gratitude we have towards Jesus and his rescuing us from our sin? This, and more, is what we will be discussing this month.
Discussion Questions
Tell us about a time when you felt grateful?
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Letters and Papers from Prison
“In normal life we hardly realize how much more we receive than we give, and life cannot be rich without such gratitude. It is so easy to overestimate the importance of our own achievements compared with what we owe to the help of others.”
How would you describe the difference between being grateful and showing gratitude?
How does it make you feel when someone expresses their appreciation for something you have done for them?
How do you feel when they don’t express that appreciation?
Why is showing gratitude more difficult, and less likely for someone to do, than just feeling grateful?
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
When you think about the Gospel, what Jesus did for you, how does that make you feel? How does that feeling impact the way you live?
We gave big financially at Mosaic this past Sunday. What are some other ways we can demonstrate our gratitude to God with our lives?
Closing Thought
How can we make gratitude, and grateful living, an every day rhythm in our lives?
