05 Sep Updates from Sunday
What an amazing Sunday! We are still tallying our giving from our Live Big offering, half going to the Austin Disaster Relief Network, and half going to City Life Church in Houston, Texas, our sister church there. Thank you so much for giving and sacrificing during this hard-to-believe disaster.
You may know we have had several groups of people from Mosaic travel to Houston and become part of the “citizen’s navy” that has rescued people from homes and helped some get started toward getting back on their feet. Thanks to those who have done that and to those who will.
I know the scope of the need feels overwhelming, and it really is, but one thing I am encouraging us all to do this week, as part of our response, in addition to financial giving, is to pray and fast for three days this week: this Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, September 6-8. This fast was already scheduled, we do this annually, but its meaning just took on way more significance.
And, we were planning on giving you way more information about it last week, but our services were canceled the week of the 27th, the world was going crazy, and unless you caught it before last week in some of our Mosaic in a Minutes, this may be taking you by surprise. But! I hope you will take this time to pray, fast and cry out to God for His help and grace through all this for all those affected.
We will have a special prayer service at 6:30 pm that Friday night in Elevate—childcare is not provided, but we encourage you to bring your children that night to participate at whatever level they are able.
Also, if you are interested in “adopting” a college student as you heard about on Sunday, you can click here to sign up.
And, if you would like to be a mentor at Live Oak Elementary, it’s not too late! There is a mandatory (per state law) hour-long training you need to sit through in order to get going. This will be held on September 17 at 12:30 during our third service. You can register here for all the details, including location.
Also, thanks for giving us some grace as we communicate with you about all that is going on this fall. The combination of canceling our services the other weekend, having Pastor Brett go to Houston, and having me gone during that same time for almost 2 weeks for the residency portion of a seminary degree I am pursuing… has left our staff a little drained as we try to do things with excellence in a fast-paced time of the year for us that just got more complex.
You are amazing and I can’t wait to find out how much we have raised together!
