Singleness Is…

Being single is awesome! I know what you’re thinking…”Easy for you to say, Barnabas…you’re married and have a beautiful family!” First off, thank you; that’s very kind of you to say and I agree, my family is beautiful 🙂

Yet, this wasn’t always the case. I became a christian my sophomore year in college and spent over a decade doing something many of you are doing now…waiting. Waiting for God to heal the emotional ties in my soul as a result of a sinful relationship…waiting to be shown the importance of brotherhood and how to view women as sisters in Christ…waiting for Jesus to capture my heart so that He could be not just Savior, but Lord!

Being single is about many things…maturity, discovering our identity in Christ, but mostly it’s about waiting.

Not waiting for the perfect job, or the perfect spouse, or getting the perfect dog (or cat for all you feline lovers!). What we are really waiting for is to see the goodness of the Lord. Interestingly enough, we see this truth in an unlikely place in scripture. Lamentations 3:25 says, “The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.”

It’s fair to say that Singleness is Hard. It’s just as fair to say that Singleness is a Gift. But most of all, Singleness is an Opportunity. An opportunity to see that God is good and He is in the waiting.

If you’re single, I want to encourage you that this season is precious and God wants to use it and use you to make a difference. I also want to invite you to register (if you haven’t already) for this year’s Singles Conference on September 6-7. This year’s theme is Set Apart and we would love for you to join us as we explore how God has created each of us for the unique representation of His holiness.

There will be inspiring teaching, an adventure around the city, good food, and a lot of fun!

Hope to see you there!
